Free education is a right

Education is a public good, which should be paid for from general progressive taxation. Yet debt from English universities is the highest in the English-speaking world - an average of £44,000 per student.

Here's what Natalie had to say about the issue in the 2015 leaders' debate:

Through the decades when many people might expect to be settling down, maybe buying a house and starting a family, they face paying money off to this unsettleable debt - a profoundly disheartening prospect.

Young people should not be starting life weighed down by a huge weight of unpayable debt.

Beyond tuition fees, the loss of grants and bursaries is forcing out many, and leaving others having to spend so long in jobs that its tremendously difficult for them to focus on their studies.

The Green Party would bring back maintenance grants, so students can focus on their studies.
